ARCHIVED - New bus stop to allow safer access to Torrevieja’s weekly market
The new bus stop is located at the pedestrian entrance to the market, on Avenida de Monge y Bielsa
The department of Quality of Urban Services from the Town Hall in Torrevieja, in collaboration with the department of Transport, have carried out improvements to the urban transport system which allows better access to the Torrevieja market area, located in the Parque Antonio Soria.
The improvement project has been carried out due to the previous discontinuity in pedestrian sidewalks between the market area and the current bus stop, which was established provisionally when the weekly market was moved.
However, due to the difficult, or even unsafe, pedestrian access, the Town Hall in Torrevieja decided to build a new bus stop on the roundabout on the cul-de-sac on Avenida Monje y Bielsa.
The roundabout has been remodelled to allow public transport vehicles to make the turn, by reducing the diameter from 26 to 20 metres and, consequently, widening the road from 4 to 7 metres.
The new bus stop is now located next to the pedestrian entrance to the market and has two canopies, providing safer access for those who use public transport.
