ARCHIVED - New Covid cases recorded in 116 towns in Valencia region: Update June 15
Less than half of the 265 municipalities in the provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon saw new cases over the weekend.
New Covid infections were recorded in 116 of the 265 Valencian municipalities over the weekend according to data released today.
Only Valencia city exceeded more than 100 cases with 181, while eight registered more than 10 new positives: Alicante reported 30, there were 25 in Elche, 22 in Castello de Plana, 20 in Torrevieja, 14 in San Vicente del Raspeig, 13 in Benidorm and 10 in Paterna and Torrent.
And according to the regional ministry of health, there have now been Covid-related deaths in Aspe, Valencia, Cabanes and Silla since December, while two new outbreaks have also been confirmed in Torrevieja and Valencia city.
The figures have been released alongside data which shows adverse reactions to Covid vaccines in the Valencia region have halved in two months.
The number of people who suffered side effects has fallen from 0.57 per cent of those vaccinated in April to 0.25 per cent as of today, Tuesday, June 15.
Three quarters of the complaints were reported through the Vaccine Information System (SIV) with the remainder registered through the Spanish System of Pharmacovigilance of Medicines for Human Use (SEFV -H) website.
The main side effects reported are pain in the arm where the jab was administered, fever, headache, dizziness, nausea and diarrhea, and depending on the type of vaccine administered, "the rate of adverse events varies", according to the health department.
The Pfizer-BioNTech currently has an adverse event reporting rate of 0.2 per cent, but this figure rises slightly with the AstraZeneca vaccine (0.38 per cent) and the Moderna vaccine (0.47 per cent) while the Janssen vaccine has apparently led to less adverse reactions with just 0.05 per cent of all those vaccinated, although it has been stressed less of this vaccine has been used.
As of today, a total of 3.4 million doses of vaccine have been administered across the region.
