ARCHIVED - New stone drinking fountain added to Lorca street to beat the heat
ARCHIVED ARTICLE The fountain is just one of the many improvements made to Calle Fuente Alta de Coy
The Calle Fuente Alta de Coy street in
Lorca has been given a thorough makeover with a pretty, new drinking fountain complete with antique tap and a picturesque cobblestone walkway, as well as improvements to vital infrastructure to make the street safer.
Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, and the councillors for Development and Culture, Isabel Casalduero and María Ángeles Mazuecos, paid a visit to the renovated street this weekend to see the great work that has been carried out.
Mateos said that “from the City Council of Lorca, we continue to work for our districts and today we visited the recently renovated Calle Fuente Alta de Coy on which an emergency action has been carried out on the retaining wall of the road, thanks to a total municipal investment of 37,000 euros from the councils of Pedanías and Local Development.”
He went on to explain that “the work carried out on Calle Fuente Alta de Coy consisted of structural changes, with reinforced concrete, of the stone retaining wall on the street and the renovation of the supply network, replacing the previous pipe.
“We have also acted in the repair of the wall… plastering, plumbing and levelling off the stone wall with cement mortar and stone veneer… and the placement of limestone coping at the top.”
The road surface itself has also been touched up, he said: “In addition, the street has been adapted with the demolition of the existing concrete and approximately 350 square metres of the road repaved with concrete.”
Finally, the Mayor pointed out that it’s not just emergency work that has been carried out on Calle Fuente Alta de Coy, but also some beautification and the installation of facilities for the general public to use.
“To complete this work,” he said, “a natural stone drinking fountain has been installed with an antique bronze tap and, in addition, a pavement has been created with aged cobblestones next to the stone wall.”
Diego José Mateos has made it clear that “for this government team, all the residents of Lorca, of our neighbourhoods and districts, have the right to have the same quality services and infrastructure. That is our commitment and from the City Council of Lorca, with full collaboration and cooperation between councils, we continue to work for our districts to forget all those years in which they were abandoned.”
