No trains between Murcia and Cartagena until June 17
Renfe is introducing a replacement bus service while Adif carries out upgrade works
Rail services between Murcia city and Cartagena have been suspended due to infrastructure works on the Balsicas-La Palma Pozo Estrecho section of railway, with Renfe putting on a temporary replacement bus service to minimise disruption. The works, which are part of the project to build a high-speed platform linking the two cities, begin this Friday June 13 and are expected to last until 6am on Tuesday June 17, from which point the rail service is scheduled to resume.Until then, a total of 89 road services will operate between the two cities. Renfe will transfer passengers from both the Proximity Services and the Media Distancia trains on the Valencia-Murcia-Cartagena line by bus.Long-distance passengers using Intercity services on the Mediterranean Corridor (València-Cartagena) will terminate or begin their journeys in Murcia instead of Cartagena throughout the affected days.To accommodate this change, Renfe has scheduled one bus per day in each direction with 55 seats for Intercity passengers needing to travel to or from Cartagena. To ensure connections with AVE services from Murcia, buses departing from Cartagena will leave earlier than the original train times. The first service to operate after the line reopens will be a local connection from Cartagena to Murcia del Carmen station, scheduled for just after 6am on June 17.Renfe has increased communication efforts to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements. Posters and loudspeaker announcements are in place at Murcia and Cartagena stations, alongside updates via the company’s website and social media channels. The company has also confirmed that group bookings, bicycles and pets will not be permitted on the replacement bus services.Image: J.
