ARCHIVED - Noelia Arroyo takes office as Mayoress of Cartagena
The agreed power-sharing transition is completed as Ana Belén Castejón gives way to the new Mayoress
Following the resignation last week of Ana Belén Castejón from the post of Mayoress of Cartagena the second half of the transition which was agreed as part of a power-sharing deal two years ago was completed on Saturday, when new Mayoress Noelia Arroyo was sworn into office in the Palacio Consistorial.
The shock pact which was formed at the last minute in 2019 between the PP and PSOE parties in Cartagena caused considerable controversy, and Sra Castejón was stripped of her PSOE membership as a result of the deal. However, neither she nor Sra Arroyo has shown any regret over the last two years, and in her first speech as Mayoress Noelia Arroyo stressed that the key aspects of the current legislation are dialogue and the fact that the city and the people of Cartagena are more important than party rivalries.
However, she also found time to criticize the PSOE’s actions two years ago, accusing the party of abandoning not only the Mayoress but also the Town Hall and Cartagena itself.
