New 94-million-euro highway project set to relieve Espinardo junction and improve regional mobility
The long-awaited construction of Murcia’s Northern Ring Road has officially been given the green light. This major infrastructure project, with a budget of just under 94 million euros, aims to free up traffic and reduce congestion on the ring roads closest to the city, specifically tackling the notorious bottleneck at the Espinardo junction.
The works will take place along the A-7 motorway from kilometer point 652+000 to the Cabezo de Torres link, creating a vital connection between the highways of Madrid and Alicante. This new road will not only ease traffic flow but also improve mobility across the Murcia region, benefitting thousands of residents.
Francisco Lucas, the government delegate for Murcia, described the project as “a historic milestone” that responds to a “long-standing demand” to connect the region more efficiently. He emphasised the importance of boosting quality of life, saying: “With this infrastructure, the central government is addressing one of the critical points in the regional road network and, most importantly, improving the lives of citizens.”
Lucas also reassured the public that “the Government of Spain is taking a decisive step and launching the process for the construction of the Northern Ring Road, a key infrastructure for the Murcia region,” adding that he would continue working to modernise the area’s transport system for the benefit of all.
This development marks a significant step forward for Murcia’s road network, promising smoother journeys and less time stuck in traffic for commuters and travellers alike.
