ARCHIVED - Officer from the PolicÃa Local in Torrevieja detained on drug trafficking charges
The officer and 4 other men had been distributing marijuana and cocaine in Orihuela Costa
The Guardia Civil in Orihuela Costa has detained four men and one woman, who is a Policía Local officer in Torrevieja, on charges relating to the plantation and sale of marijuana, as well as the sale of cocaine.
The investigation began after an operation in September 2020 in which 12 criminals were arrested for cultivating and selling marijuana in the Vega Baja area.
After the arrests last year, the Guardia Civil became aware that a member of the local police force in Torrevieja might be involved in the criminal organization.
The police officer involved was reportedly a neighbour of one of the criminals and she took advantage of her position to carry out drug deliveries, using her uniform and official police vehicle to avoid police roadblocks and disregard the perimetral closure of municipalities that was in place at the time.
The Guardia Civil discovered a large marijuana plantation at a private residence and seized 126 plants and other substances.
The investigation led to the arrest of four men, who were charged with drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal group, and the detention of the police officer involved, who was charged with drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal group and failure to prosecute crime.
In addition, one of the men, thought to be in charge of the criminal operation, was also charged with electricity fraud after hooking up illegally to the main electric network.
