ARCHIVED - One-third of Covid patients in Spain who were put on ventilators didn’t survive during first wave
The death rate among Covid-19 patients in Spain who required ventilation during the first wave of the pandemic was 33 per cent, a new study presented at the 2nd National Covid-19 Congress has found.
The ‘CIBERESUCICOVID’ study was presented at the congress by Dr Antonio Torres Martí, a pulmonologist from the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. It aims to examine the risk and prognosis factors of coronavirus patients in intensive care units in Spain.
Moreover, follow-ups can be carried out a year after patients are released from hospitals to determine survival and respiratory consequences, carry out epigenetic studies and evaluate biomarkers in the progression of the condition, mortality and effectiveness of treatments.
