ARCHIVED - Orihuela to install four new charging points for electric vehicles
More than €30,000 is being spent installing charging points across the municipality in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
Orihuela Council is installing four charging points for electric vehicles in Carretera de Hurchillo, Calle Teodoro Llorente in Campoamor, Avenida Teodomiro and in Soto I6, next to the urban organic gardens.
The move follows a grant of €23,160 from the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), within the Energy Saving and Efficiency Program in Transport, with the local authority paying the remaining €11,870 required.
"With these new points we are planning to install, we are continuing to promote the use of electric vehicles by facilitating their recharging throughout our municipality, thus reducing pollution", says councillor for the environment, Damaso Aparicio, adding that they will also be able to be used for motorcycles and electric mopeds.
In order to "achieve a more sustainable development model", the local authority is working "intensively to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency while promoting sustainable mobility by encouraging the use of alternative means of transport" in the the centre of Orihuela, along the coast and surrounding districts.
In addition to these new public points, the council plans to add recharging facilities in private parking facilities, such as shopping centres and supermarkets, "in total, around 50 throughout the municipality".
The new charging stations are Type 2 (semi-fast) with the possibility of charging two vehicles simultaneously, through two outlets with a maximum power, in each of them, of 22 Kw in AC.
"Their operation is similar to the other existing points in the municipality and their use is very simple and free of charge for users", assures Aparicio.
