ARCHIVED - Orihuela to Montepinar bike lane to open month ahead of schedule
Connecting cycle lane in the Vega Baja, Alicante province, looks set to be ready for use from August 15.
Two kilometres of bike lane that will allow cyclists to ride safely between Orihuela and Montepinar looks set to be unveiled mid-August - almost a month ahead of schedule.
The new lane will join the CV-870 at the N-340 roundabout and CV-868 Montepinar junction, following an investment of €227,480. The project was expected to be completed by September 10, but "works have been progressing at a very good pace", according to the local authority, so providing there are no hiccups, "residents should be able to enjoy it from August 15".
In addition to the new cycleway, the stretch has been repaved and alterations have been made to the surface to prevent the accumulation of water during heavy rain. Raised vertical segments will also be placed along the route to "provide safety for cyclists".
The stretch of CV-870 in the municipality is the responsibility of the town council, since the bypass was built, but Alicante Provincial Council is responsible for the other roads and has already drafted plans to offer continuation to the lane, eventually linking Orihuela with Hurchillo, then on to Arneva and Bigastro.
