Paramount promotion company office in Alhama de Murcia closes its doors
The Paramount theme park project in Alhama appears to have quietly stagnated
The future of the Paramount theme park project in Alhama de Murcia has been quietly off the boil for some time now, and the news that Premursa, the company in charge of promoting the project and securing finance, is to close its office in Alhama at the end of September will be of little surprise to those who feared that the grand plans would never come to fruition.
The closure of the office in the industrial estate of Alhama has been confirmed by local Mayor Diego Conesa, and reported by La Verdad, the Mayor stating to the paper that in terms what the future holds the ball is now firmly in the court of Premursa.
It was at the Alhama office of Premursa not so long ago that thousands of hopeful candidates presented their CVs in the hope of securing employment at the Paramount theme park and Lifestyle Center, but in the light of the continuing lack of progress in securing finance and beginning construction interest has recently dwindled to almost nil. Others working close to the office report that hardly anyone has been seen entering or leaving the premises in recent months.
Diego Conesa also confirms that no further progress has been made towards issuing construction licences, because although requests for further documentation have been made to Premursa no response has been forthcoming. The Mayor reports that the latest news he received from Jesús Samper, the president of Premursa, was a request for a meeting the next time he comes to the Region of Murcia, but that meeting has not yet been arranged.
According to the terms of the original licence the park should have been up and running by now, although the company was permitted an extra year in which to gain financial backing for the project. Part of the site intended for the theme park has been cleared, but only a symbolic stone laid so far.
For the moment, the only news is that the Premursa office in Alhama de Murcia will close down within a week, and the only office of the company to remain will be the one in Madrid.
