ARCHIVED - Paseo Alfonso XII in Cartagena will be closed to traffic for the whole of August
The main artery into the city will be closed this summer. Here are the alternative routes

Work on the first phase of the Plaza Mayor project in Cartagena, which is being carried out by the Port Authority on the Paseo Alfonso XII boulevard, means traffic is to be cut off to this important access artery to the city for the remainder of the month of August.
This first phase of the Plaza Mayor project consists of the installation of new piping, the replacement of the asphalt paving which separates Héroes de Cavite and the seafront with natural stone cobblestones, to integrate the Plaza del Ayuntamiento with the Port and also to improve the street lighting.
These works, which extend from the Cola de Ballena sculpture of the whale’s tail to the esplanade next to the ARQUA, are projected to last until the end of the month.
Drivers will be able to access Calle Real via Plaza de España or Barrio de la Concepción.
The entrance to the underground car park on Paseo Alfonso XII will still be open, as will the roundabout so that drivers can turn around.
To access the city centre, if you are coming from Santa Lucía, it is recommended to turn off at Calle Gisbert or Cuesta de El Batel.
