ARCHIVED - Plans to upgrade Calpe park get the go ahead
Calpe's Vallesa Park in the Marina Alta, Alicante province, will be completely remodelled.
Plans to upgrade and landscape Vallesa Park (Parque de la Vallesa), one of the most popular recreational areas in Calpe, have been given the go ahead.
The park was opened in the 1990s and hasn't undergone any notable changes since, so €290,000 will be spent creating a "unique area" with an "innovative design".
Two landscaped areas are planned to separate the green spaces without creating a visual barrier, and there will be a number of information points to raise awareness about the local environment.
A playground area will also be built, new outdoor furniture and lighting installed, and the pavement surrounding the park will be replaced with the addition of a bicycle lane.
An exact start date for the remodelling project hasn't been announced, but it's hoped the work will be completed within 14 weeks.
An ambitious €2.5 million project is currently underway in Calpe - home to around 1,670 Britons - to improve road surfaces on urbanisations, some of which date back to the 60s and 70s.
