ARCHIVED - Puerto de Mazarron health centre to stay open in the afternoons all year round
The regional authorities have finally agreed to allow the health centre to stay open 365 days a year
The Regional Ministry of Health in Murcia has made a commitment to the residents of Puerto de Mazarrón and the municipality of Mazarrón that the Health Centre will remain open from 3pm all year round.
The Town Hall in Mazarrón has repeatedly petitioned the Regional government to keep its health centre open and maintain its 24-hour emergency service, and even held a 500-person strong protest demonstration earlier this month to that effect.
Finally, after years of requests, the Ayuntamiento de Mazarrón has managed to at least get a compromise solution from the regional authorities, though it falls short of having the Health Centre available 24 hours a day as they wanted.
This was announced in a meeting held by the Association of Neighbours of Puerto de Mazarrón with the Secretary General of Health, Andrés Torrente, which was also attended by the Manager of Health Area II, the Manager of Accident and Health Emergencies 061 and the Head of Primary Care.
At the meeting, a commitment was made to study different options so that the Health Centre in Puerto de Mazarrón could remain open from 3pm in the afternoon throughout the year.
In addition, both the Paediatrics and Gynaecology specialist services are to be reinforced with extra funding, and a much-needed Mental Health service implemented.
