ARCHIVED - Radical jihadist arrested in Malaga
Officers have seized a staggering amount of terrorist propaganda from the suspect’s Andalucía apartment
Officers from the Information Service of the Guardia Civil have arrested an individual in Malaga who has been under investigation since 2020 for his pro-jihadist activity on the internet. In recent weeks the content of his various posts and videos has become progressively more radicalised and officials were able to establish clear links with extremist counterparts in the Spanish enclave of Melilla.
The Guardia Civil reported that his social media posts glorified the jihadist cause and convicted terrorists, in addition to containing symbols of the fanatical DEASH organisation. The increase in the quantity and virulence of his posts coincided with his move from Melilla to Malaga.
As part of the investigation, a search of the suspect’s apartment was made and his relative was arrested, but was subsequently released without charge. Officers are still examining the seized material and have confirmed that it is the largest amount of radical propaganda they have retrieved in many years. The man has been detained without bail.
