Region of Murcia preparing measures to ease rising costs linked to Iran conflict

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

Regional President Fernando López Miras says they are looking at tax relief and support for families and businesses in Murcia

Region of Murcia preparing measures to ease rising costs linked to Iran conflict

The government of the Region of Murcia is preparing its own package of measures to help ease the rise in costs linked to the conflict in Iran.

Regional president Fernando López Miras said several government departments are already working on proposals intended to reduce the impact on families and businesses as prices continue to climb.

Speaking to journalists during the opening of a new health centre in Molina de Segura, López Miras warned that the effects of the conflict are already being felt across the regional economy, particularly by smaller companies.

Region of Murcia preparing measures to ease rising costs linked to Iran conflictAccording to the regional leader, production costs are rising and many businesses are becoming increasingly concerned about the uncertainty created by the situation.

“The effects are already being noticed. The cost of everything is going up and businesses and families are very worried,” he said, adding that it is important to take steps now to reduce the economic impact.

Departments responsible for finance and business are currently studying possible tax measures and support for companies within the limits of the regional government.

At the same time, López Miras called on the Government of Spain to act quickly and introduce measures to help lower energy costs at a national level.

He has urged the central government to reduce VAT on gas, electricity and fuel from 21% to 10% and to adjust income tax to reflect current inflation levels.

Pedro Sánchez is scheduled to address the Congress of Deputies about the situation, where he may outline national measures.

López Miras also dismissed comments from ministers suggesting that the best way to bring prices down is simply for the war to end. He says governments must also introduce additional measures to support people dealing with rising everyday costs.
