ARCHIVED - Researchers in Madrid call for Easter to be delayed
By postponing Easter for 21 days, they argue that the risk of a fourth wave can be minimized
Across Spain there are discussions underway about the forthcoming Easter holiday period and what level of relaxation of coronavirus measures should be implemented in order to allow the public some degree of respite from the virus, but also try to limit the impact of a potential fourth wave of the virus by relaxing restrictions too soon.
Researchers at the Polytechnic University in Madrid have come up with a novel idea and have suggested that Easter, which falls at the beginning of April this year, should be put back 21 days to allow more people to be vaccinated first.
This, they argue, would provide more vulnerable people with some degree of protection against coronavirus before the holidays, thus reducing the risk of another wave afterwards as occurred after Christmas.
