ARCHIVED - San Javier annual Fiestas: November 26 to December 8
Several free concerts as well as a tapas route are on offer during the San Javier celebrations in the Region of Murcia
Music, gastronomy, sporting activities and tradition return to San Javier this year for the annual festivities in honour of San Francisco Javier, although the celebrations will be slightly different due to the pandemic and the Town Hall has warned that modifications will be made if the Covid situation worsens.
The celebrations start on Friday November 26 and end on December 8 and coincide with the XIII Tapas and Cocktail Raid, which ends on December 6. A tapas dish and a drink cost 2.50 euros while a cocktail costs three euros at all participating bars and restaurants. The rest of the programme is as follows:
- Saturday November 27, 10pm: day of the Peñas, title-giving ceremony.
- Sunday November 28: cinema session at the municipal gazebo.
- Wednesday December 3: traditional concert by the General Air Academy Band with the participation of the Choir Stella Maris Björk in the Plaza de España.
- Wednesday December 3: procession with the image of the Saint followed by a fireworks display.
- Saturday December 4: childrens’ activities including a Disney musical and Junior cooking event at the gazebo.
- Saturday December 4: giant spinning session with more than 150 bikes in the Plaza de España, accompanied by a DJ session. There are also paddle tennis, caliche, bowling and football tournaments.
- Sunday December 5: traditional Cierva pastry tasting.
- Sunday December 5: musical performance by Celtas Cortos and other groups.
- Monday December 6: musical performance by Median Azahara and other groups.
- Monday December 6: Legends Night with outdoor concerts from 1pm at the fairground with performances from local groups such as Kanelaje, Aparatus and Powerband. The final concert by Mediana Azahara is at 10pm.
- Tuesday December 7: concert ‘Siempre Camilo’ or Traga Jarabe at the fairground gazebo, a tribute to Jarabe de Palo de Pau Donés that the festival committee has organised to raise funds for the San Javier Cancer Association.
This year, in order to control occupancy and reduce the risk of Covid transmissions, a ticket is required for all events in enclosed spaces, which are available on the San Javier festival website.
