September holidays and festivals bring renewed joy to the Region of Murcia

ARCHIVED ARTICLE -

Murcia Fair, Carthaginians and Romans, and numerous local patron saint celebrations brighten the month

September holidays and festivals bring renewed joy to the Region of MurciaAs September arrives, many in the Region of Murcia find it a fresh start - a chance to ease back into routines after the summer break while continuing to enjoy the lingering warmth and vibrant festivities across the region.

Although September features no national or regional holidays, many towns celebrate local festivities that provide a welcome break and plenty of cultural activities. In total, 14 municipalities have non-working days in September, with two towns enjoying two holidays each.

Some of the highlights include:
  • Archena celebrating on September 1
  • Albudeite, Calasparra, Cieza, Lorca, and Pliego observing holidays on September 8
  • Cehegín on September 10 and 12
  • Yecla on September 15
  • Murcia on September 16, when residents take part in the Virgin of Fuensanta pilgrimage
  • Alcantarilla on September 16
  • Molina de Segura on September 22
  • Mula hosting holidays on September 23 and 25
  • Cartagena marking Heritage Day on September 26
  • Abarán, Moratalla and Santomera on September 29

September is also notable for major regional events such as the Murcia Fair and the Carthaginians and Romans Festival, both attracting locals and visitors for their mix of history, music, and traditional celebrations.

For many workers and students, September feels like a mini New Year, with the promise of long weekends or days off providing something to look forward to as the busy summer season slows down.

This lively calendar of festivities offers a wonderful opportunity to dive into Murcia’s rich heritage and community spirit, making the month a special and uplifting time across the region.
