ARCHIVED - Shameful photos show political incompetence over botched Mar Menor clean-up
Cartagena city council accused of making things worse while attempting to remove waste from the Mar Menor
The Murcia-based environmental protection and protest action group MarMenorKO has criticised Cartagena city council for its substandard clean-up job of the beaches around the Mar Menor.
Diggers have been sent to the area in an attempt to remove the sludge, and industrial rakes are also being used to try and clean the residue in the water, with mixed levels of success. It turns out that trying to rake water isn’t an overly effective way of cleaning it, and that the caterpillar tracks of the excavators have only made things worse.
In their comments on the developing situation, MarMenorKO has called the Cartagena city council and its mayor “the cancer of the Mar Menor”, and has questioned why the work is not being supervised by a biologist.

SOIS EL CANCER DEL MAR MENOR y no tenéis solución.
