ARCHIVED - Six men arrested in Murcia for bringing illegal migrants from Africa
Police have taken down part of an organised human trafficking ring in the Murcia region
Six men have been arrested in the Region of Murcia for transporting irregular immigrants from Africa to the Murcian coast. The men, all of Algerian nationality and aged between 29 and 39 years old, were detained by the Policía Nacional and taken to Magistrate’s Court for crimes against the rights of foreign citizens.
Illegal migration from northern Africa to Murcia has been steadily increasing since September, with 155 illegal migrants reaching the Murcian coast over the last weekend. Spain’s Illegal Immigration Unit (UCRIF) has alleged that the rise is due to the fact that criminal organisations are trying to overwhelm policing efforts through sheer force of numbers so that the Spanish authorities will relax their anti-immigration efforts.
Undeterred, Spanish National Police and the Guardia Civil continues to investigate each and every one of the boats intercepted to identify and bring to justice all the people who form part of criminal gangs dedicated to human trafficking.
