ARCHIVED - Six more lifeguard points open for the summer at Cartagena beaches
The summer season gathers momentum from the Mar Menor and Cabo de Palos in the east to Isla Plana in the west
As of Wednesday June 16 a further six lifeguard lookout points are manned for the summer at beaches in the municipality of Cartagena, namely those at Playa de Levante in Cabo de Palos, Calblanque, El Portús, Mar de Cristal, Cavanna and Cala del Pino, the latter three all on the shore of the Mar Menor.
These facilities will be staffed until September 15, and come into service a fortnight after those at the beaches of Galúa, Sirenas, Entremares, Cala Cortina and San Ginés. For the peak season of July and August there will be staff at a total of 26 lookout points in Cartagena, with 15 more opening on July 1.
All of these lifeguard points share three Rapid Intervention Vehicles and nursing staff are also employed. At the beaches of Galúa and Entremares the lifeguards have the use of a jetski, while at Mar de Cristal and San Ginés there are semi-rigid craft and at Galúa, Entremares and San Ginés special off-road sand vehicles.
During June and September the posts are manned from 11.00 to 19.00, closing an hour later in July and August.
