Melodic pop, presenting his latest album, Pólvora
José Miguel Conejo Torres is generally better known by his stage name Leiva and is a songwriter and performer who has achieved good chart success first with Spanish pop rock band Pereza, between 1001 and 2009, then his own solo career.
This is good, mainstream melodic pop which doesn´t rock the senses, but delivers smooth, well constructed and inoffensively comfortable pop tracks. Leiva is typical of so many of these excellent Spanish artists which are generally unknown to an expat audience: the music is foot tappingly good, the musicianship top level, the voice distinctive yet reassuringly familiar and the music well structured, one rocky melody after another.
It’s good stuff and as always with these artists, is worth a punt!
