ARCHIVED - Spanish government extends restrictions on flights from Brazil and South Africa
Direct flights from the two countries were banned back in February when the Brazilian and South African variants of Covid-19 began to appear in Spain.
The Spanish authorities have extended the restrictions on direct flights into Spanish airports from Brazil and South Africa until 6 July due to continuing concerns over coronavirus variants.
The measure, which was originally approved back in February and was due to expire on 22 June, has been extended by means of an order published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) but can be lifted early if the Ministry of Health sees fit depending on how the situation regarding the pandemic evolves.
Under these restrictions, commercial flights to Spain from Brazil and South Africa are only allowed to carry Spanish or Andorran nationals or residents, or passengers in international transit to a non-Schengen country with a stopover of under 24 hours, who must remain within the transit zone of the Spanish airport.
