ARCHIVED - Spanish Government purchasing 17 million more doses of Moderna vaccination
Only 192,000 Moderna vaccines have been delivered to Spain so far
Despite the problems in supply and distribution of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine the Spanish government announced on Tuesday that a further 17 million doses are to be acquired.
Government Minister María Jesús Montero confirmed that the order had been placed as part of the efforts to vaccinate 70 per cent of the population of Spain by the end of the summer. This order comes on top of the 16 million doses already purchased from Moderna, and the projection is now that 5.7 million doses will be received during the third quarter of 2021 and the remainder in the final three months of the year.
So far only 192,000 Moderna vaccines have actually been delivered to Spain, the majority of the 3.9 million doses administered to date being from Pfizer, according to the latest data published by the government.
