ARCHIVED - Spanish government working with the EU on Covid vaccine passport
The passport is aimed to guarantee safe travel once it’s possible, the Spanish Tourism Minister announced.
Spanish Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto confirmed on Monday (15 February) that the government has been working for a few weeks now on plans for a vaccine passport to guarantee safe movement once travel is possible and reported that various ministries are involved in the plans.
Spain is not working alone to create a passport for those who’ve received the vaccine, Maroto explained, but is doing so in conjunction with the European Union and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). The aim is to create common protocols so that, once national and international travel is again possible, it can be done in complete safety and under health conditions that will allow people to enjoy their trips, the minister said.
While she promised that a Covid-19 free future is drawing closer, Maroto called for caution because there are still difficult weeks to come and stressed that the Spanish government’s top priority is to combat the pandemic and that the vaccination process should give them room to start to adapt mobility restrictions.
