ARCHIVED - Specialist gang caught stealing bulk catering oil from restaurants in the province of Alicante
The group carried out robberies in restaurants in Orihuela Costa, Alicante, Denia and Gandía
The Policía Nacional have detained six people involved in a criminal group which had been carrying out robberies in restaurants from two well-known fast-food franchises in several locations in the province of Alicante, including Orihuela Costa.
The criminals had been using blunt tools to force entry and then stealing industrial quantities of oil, as well as other effects, which they then resold to third parties. They had also been stealing oil from recycling sites and clean points (puntos limpios).
The investigation took place following various complaints about robberies in Orihuela Costa, Alicante, Denia and Gandía, and led to the identification of all 6 members of the group, who were based in the municipality of Villajoyosa. The criminals were all of Spanish nationality and were between 30 and 48 years of age.
In addition, police officers also seized the two vehicles that were being used by the criminal group to carry out the robberies.
