ARCHIVED - Spectacular snowfall this morning in the Region of Murcia
Massive snowstorms have hit Caravaca, Moratalla and the Sierra Espuña in the last 24 hours
There has been a spectacularly heavy snowfall in Caravaca de la Cruz and Moratalla last night and this morning after the yellow warnings issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for accumulation of snow in the Northwest of the Region of Murcia.
Snow has fallen heavily in the foothills of the Revolcadores Massif, in Puerto Alto (Moratalla), as well as in El Moral and Paraje El Nevazo de Abajo (Caravaca). The areas which recorded the heaviest snowfalls, accompanied by blizzards, were situated at 1,200 metres above sea level, such as in the Sierra Espuña.
In Lorca, where snow was also forecast, a light dusting of flakes covered the peaks of the Zarzadilla de Totana district.
Murcia’s Ministry of Development has carried out 8 separate “preventive actions to guarantee safety and the proper functioning of the regional network of roads”, and shared images on their social media of a heavy blizzard on the RM-703 Moratalla-Campo de San Juan road.

The weather for the next couple of days is likely to be far less snowy, but weather forecasters are predicting rainy spells not only in the Northwest but across almost the entire Region of Murcia.
