ARCHIVED - Storm Barra wreaks havoc across Spain: weather update December 8
Temperatures continue to fall across Spain and widespread rain and snow is expected
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has predicted generalised showers and occasional storms in Galicia, Cantabria and the Pyrenees on Wednesday December 8 which will extend to the south and east of Spain as the day goes on.
The snow level will drop to between 500 and 1,000 metres in the north and to as low as 1,200 metres in the south, a fact that has prompted the DGT to advise drivers to return home early after the holiday weekend if possible, and to check the condition of the roads before setting off if not.
The temperature will continue to plummet across Spain, especially in the northwest, with morning fog and frost in the mountain areas of the north and southwest.
Storm Barra has already resulted in heavy snowfall and strong gusts of wind, generating accumulations of snow of around half a metre in some regions. On Tuesday afternoon, 31 roads and mountain passes were affected while long tailbacks were seen on several access roads to Madrid, Barcelona and Jaén.

Andalucía has been placed under an orange weather alert for much of Wednesday for strong winds and high waves, while the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia have been issued with a yellow warning.
