ARCHIVED - Swiss tourist, 32, dies at illegal rave in Spain
The young woman was found dead at an illicit party of more than 2,000 in Zamora, Spain

A woman of Swiss nationality was found dead in the Zamora municipality of Salce on Monday afternoon, August 15, at the site of an illegal rave that had reportedly been running since the previous Friday on the shores of the Almendra reservoir.
According to official sources, the 32-year-old’s lifeless body showed no overt signs of violence and has been transferred to the local Forensic Pathology Service for post mortem. The Armed Institute, which was dispatched to the reservoir to break up the illicit party and question attendees, confirmed that more than 2,000 people had flocked to the “rave” from several different European countries.
The illegal gathering, which had been organised through a Telegram group, ran in five stages throughout the weekend and included food and gift stalls in addition to the electronic music which was played day and night.
Sources close to the case indicate that the Swiss woman had travelled to Spain with a friend specifically to attend the rave.
The festival went ahead without any official permits and prompted officials to establish checks for alcohol and drugs and, after the party was shut down, the area was closely monitored by drones.
Before the summer season kicked off in earnest, several local authorities warned tourists to avoid these illegal raves. Aside from the fact that attendees can be fined handsomely if caught at the scene of the crime, the gatherings are exceptionally dangerous since the venues don’t have security certificates and there is no evacuation plan or contracted health services in place in the event of an accident or illness.
