ARCHIVED - Television no longer free in Murcia hospitals, except for Covid patients
The ex-minister of Health promised in October that television and Wi-Fi would be free in public hospitals in 2021
After television in the region’s public hospitals was made free on January 27, a new resolution from the Murcian Health Services (SMS) this week has made this service only free of charge for Covid patients.
From Thursday (April 22) onwards, patients will have to pay to use the television in their hospital rooms in the Reina Sofía and La Arrixaca hospitals, as was the case 3 months ago.
However, in a statement last October, the ex-minister of Health in the Region of Murcia, Manuel Villegas, assured the public that television and Wi-Fi services would be free for all patients in 2021, as well as free electronic tablets in isolation, paediatric and dialysis wards.
He stated that the current contracts cannot be cancelled, as breaking the agreements would mean an extra cost to the public health system, which means that they must be finalized before new contracts can be made to provide free television and Wi-Fi to patients, hopefully sometime later this year.
