ARCHIVED - Temperatures steady at around 30 over the weekend in the Costa Cálida and across Murcia region
Night-time minimums on the coast rise to over 20 as the summer begins early in Murcia
The official start of summer in the northern hemisphere on 21st June is still 11 days away but in the Region of Murcia the season appears to have started early, with warm sunny weather practically guaranteed to last at least throughout the weekend of 11th to 13th June – and possibly a lot longer!
On Thursday, as clear skies prevail over the Costa Cálida, maximum temperatures are forecast by Aemet to reach around 28 degrees on the coast and between 30 and 32 in inland areas, with night-time minimums remaining as high as 20 in Cartagena. Friday’s forecast is much the same except for a possible slight increase of a degree or so in the afternoon highs, and little change is expected over the weekend other than the minimums in coastal areas creeping up still further to around 22 or 22 degrees.
There is an old saying in Murcia to the effect that the summer does not really start until 40th May (i.e. 9th June), and it appears that in 2021 the wisdom of these words has been borne out over the last few days!
On the other hand, as yet the Costa Cálida is so far being spared the blistering heat which has already affected other parts of Spain and which will no doubt arrive over the next couple of months!
