ARCHIVED - The Region of Murcia offers grants of up to 9,000 euros for electric vehicles
Part of the funding will also be set aside to extend the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the Region
With the European Commission setting 2035 as the date after which petrol and diesel motor-powered vehicles will no longer be allowed to be sold, Spain is redoubling its efforts to encourage people to purchase environmentally-friendly cars by offering cash incentives and committing to expanding its emission-free infrastructure.
In the Region of Murcia, the dedicated ‘Moves III’ programme is backed by an investment of 11.8 million euros to encourage the purchase of electric vehicles and to install more charging points. The process of applying for grants was published in the official regional govenrment bulletin on Wednesday, July 4 and the finances will come from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan assigned to the Region.
With the 'Moves III' program individuals, companies and communities can avail themselves of grants of up to 9,000 euros for the purchase of electric vehicles.
Of the 11.8 million euros, 60 per cent will be allocated to the purchase of electric, plug-in and fuel cell vehicles. Specifically, subsidies for vehicles can reach up to 7,000 euros in the case of passenger cars, and 9,000 euros for vans or light trucks, if in both cases they are accompanied by the scrapping of a vehicle that is at least seven years old; if new buyers don’t have a vehicle to scrap, the maximum grants available will be 4,500 and 7,000 euros respectively.
The remaining 40 percent of the aid will be dedicated to supporting the development and expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. To this end, the Region of Murcia and the Comunidad de Valenciana have already committed to the creation of a 450-kilometre route for fully electric trucks and other HGVs, providing them with their own “Mediterranean corridor”, with the aim of extending the network nationwide over the next few years.
The application period for grants for electric vehicles will begin at 9am on September 30 and run until December 31, with applications to be submitted electronically at https://sede.carm.es.
