Murcia is hosting its 42nd road racing competition next month, featuring eight distinguished World Tour teams
The Region of Murcia will host the 42nd edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia Costa Cálida Gran Premio Banco Sabadell - Alfonso Guzmán Trophy on February 12. The race will be 188 kilometres long, starting in Fortuna and finishing in Cartagena.
Regional Director General of Sports, Francisco Sánchez, explained that, “The presence of three qualifying mountain passes for the Grand Prix of the Mountains stands out: the first, the Cresta del Gallo, third category; the next, the Collado Bermejo ‘Cima Marco Pantani’, special category; and the last, the Alto del Cedacero, third category”.
He continued, “There are already eight confirmed World Tour teams, including Movistar, with Alejandro Valverde”.
There is also the departure of the French Cofidis, where another Murcian cyclist, Rubén Fernández, is riding.
“From the Pro Team category, there are 12, including Euskaltel-Euskadi with last year’s winner, Antonio Jesús Soto from Alcantar”, he added. And from the same town, Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, who is part of the Hiper Europa, in the continental category, a team which includes José María García from Mula.
