These are the 4 traffic violations which you can be fined for and not know about it
There are four main infractions committed by drivers in Spain that may not incur a fine immediately
Many traffic regulations in Spain can be confusing and the Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is never slow in issuing hefty fines against infractions. While most sanctions reach drivers almost immediately, either through the post or having been issued by a traffic warden, there are a few that can leave people in blissful ignorance for months until the pesky fine arrives.
There are four situations when the DGT may not notify a driver of fines for traffic violations until a later date
- When a vehicle is stopped in such a way that it poses a danger to other road users
- If the driver of a parked vehicle breaking the law is not present
- If the violation has been recorded through means of capturing images of the registration of the vehicle, as is the case with speed cameras
- When only one traffic officer is on duty and doesn’t have the means to complete the procedure
If a driver suspects that they may have an outstanding traffic fine, they can access the dedicated DGT website to check. In addition, all fines issued are published regularly on the TESTRA electronic bulletin board.
