ARCHIVED - Three more packages containing animal eyes intercepted at diplomatic offices in Spain
The gruesome parcels were sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid and consulates in Barcelona and Malaga
The campaign against diplomatic offices across Spain continues this week with the discovery of three more macabre packages containing animal eyes at the Embassy of Ukraine in the capital and the consulates in Malaga and Barcelona.
Before the weekend several similar parcels were delivered to high-profile buildings across Europe and the latest grisly shipments arrived in Spain on Monday morning, December 5. They were intercepted by the security systems of the Post Office and although they did contain animal parts, none of the packages had explosive contents.
Last week, letter bombs containing smouldering gunpowder were sent to President Sánchez, the Ministry of Defence, the Ukrainian and US embassies in Madrid, an air base and an arms manufacturing company that supplies weapons to Kyiv. Most of these were detected before they reached their targets, but one Embassy worker suffered minor burns when the letter detonated in his hands.
Police have since determined that the letter bombs all originated in the Spanish city of Valladolid, but the culprit remains at large.
So far, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, has confirmed that a total of 21 packages containing animal eyes have been sent to diplomatic offices in 12 different countries.
The Minister has urged his fellow diplomats not to be intimidated by these threats.
“We will continue to work effectively to protect Ukraine from the enemy and from their victory,” he said.
