ARCHIVED - 15th to 17th November, Mazarron, Fiestas del Milagro
On Sunday the Romería takes place from Mazarrón to Bolnuevo, along with the Bolnuevo sardine festival
This weekend Mazarrón celebrates the Fiestas del Milagro in honour of the Virgen de la Purísima, also known as the Virgen del Milagro, which culminate in the Romería on Sunday and the Bolnuevo sardines festival down on the beach at Bolnuevo.
The main acts this forthcoming weekend are:
Friday 15th November
8pm Reading of the declarations of the miracle in the Santuario de la Purisima
Saturday 16th November
11am Children’s games in the carpa municipal, the fiesta marquee, and fairground rides at 1 euro until 2pm
5pm Theatrical visit to the Torre de los Caballos in Bolnuevo. ( In Spanish, call 968 59 44 26 to book a place. The space inside the tower is extremely limited and booking is essential)
7pm Mass, blessing of oil, followed by procession of the virgen through the streets of the town.
11.30pm Sie7te radio plays the best hits in the carpa municipal.
Sunday 17th November, Day of the Romería
06.30am, 7am and 8am. Free bus service from Bolnuevo to Mazarrón for those who want to park at Bolnuevo and then walk from Mazarron to Bolnuevo with the Virgen in her romería.
07.30am Holy mass in the Sanctuary of la Purísima in Mazarrón. The image of the Virgen is then carried from Mazarrón to Bolnuevo, about 6km across country. This takes around 2 hours.
2.30pm Sardines on the beach for everyone. Lots of people bring picnics and set up camp on the beach and the council have a BBQ, with free sardines for everyone in the long queue.
7pm Mass in the church of san Andrés in Mazarrón.
