ARCHIVED - Tiny endangered Moorish turtles found in a Murcia hamlet are given a fighting chance at a recovery centre
The two small turtles were recovered by a member of the public in Rincón de Seca in the Region of Murcia

Two tiny Moorish, or black-head, turtles discovered by a resident in the Murcia hamlet of Rincón de Seca have been handed over to the Ecological Patrol of Murcia Local Police of Murcia and transferred to El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre.
The species is listed in the Catalog of Endangered Species, and even the largest reach no more than 30cm in length.
The carapace is very convex, and from it protrude the front and hind legs which have a spur on the inner thighs. The tail is short, typically larger in males. In juveniles the carapace is flexible, granular in appearance and yellow in colour, with the edges of the plates black, hence it's common name.
As they mature. the carapace is far more yellowish in colour and the plates also bordered in black.
The tiny creatures will be monitored and when fit and healthy enough, returned to the wild.
