ARCHIVED - Torrevieja Summer Carnival August 15 and 16
Two days of summer festivities planned in the Vega Baja municipality, Alicante province
Torrevieja will host its Summer Carnival 2021 on August 15 and 16 with shows and performances.
The carnival was recently declared of Autonomous Tourist Interest, and despite Covid restrictions, which have forced the Carnival Association to put together a scaled back programme of events, organisers and the town council want to "celebrate the declaration by providing a sample of our summer festivities for locals and tourists to enjoy".
The shows will take place at the historic 16th Century Eras de la Sal, located next to Club Náutico de Torrevieja and Paseo de Vistalegre, at 9.30pm (doors open at 7.30pm), and there will be a raffle to help raise funds for future carnivals.
Sunday, August 15 - Parade of nine carnival dance and marching groups, known as comparsas. There will also be a screening of the pre-pandemic carnival held in 2019, when around 30 comparsas took to the streets.
Monday, August 16 - Performances by local chirigota (Spanish folklore singers) 'Los Sangochaos' and actor, singer and diva transformist 'Nacha la Macha'.
The performances are free, but due to capacity restrictions, anybody interested in attending is asked to pick up an entry ticket from the Municipal Theatre box office in advance.
