ARCHIVED - Tourist-filled cruise ship spots dead body off Aguilas coast
The ‘Sky Princess’ ship was the first to spot the body found near Águilas in Murcia
The body of a young woman was spotted off the coast of Águilas by a cruise ship on Tuesday October 26 and the authorities have launched an investigation.
Transatlantic cruiser ‘Sky Princess’ spotted the cadaver at around 1.25pm and alerted the Maritime Rescue Services, who sent their Cartagena-based boat ‘Salvamar Mimosa’ to the scene.
The ‘Sky Princess’, which is registered in the British overseas territory of Bermuda, remained in the area until the authorities arrived. The corpse was extracted from the water and taken to the port at approximately 3pm, where the Guardia Civil took charge of the incident.
Officers then transferred the body, belonging to a young woman, to the Legal Medicine Institute of Cartagena, where an autopsy will be carried out. The deceased woman has not yet been identified but her body was said to show “no signs of violence”.
