ARCHIVED - Traffic chaos as A-7 Crevillente closed for five hours after lorry overturns
The driver suffered head and leg injuries after the accident in the Bajo Vinalopó town of Crevillente, Alicante province.
A refrigerated lorry overturned on the A-7 in Crevillente causing five hours of traffic chaos as lanes were closed and motorists diverted while a lengthy clean-up operation was carried out.
The accident happened shortly before 5am on Saturday, June 19, at kilometer 525, when a refrigerated truck flipped onto its side, cutting off access across all lanes of the motorway, according to the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium and the DGT Traffic Management Centre.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the driver was reportedly whistling from inside the cab of the lorry to get their attention. He had suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital while Elche Local Police redirected traffic.
Meanwhile, firefighters cleared the road of spilled diesel.
The Traffic Management Centre confirmed that lanes in both the direction of Valencia and Murcia were reopened at around 9.40am, almost five hours after the accident, and normal traffic flow was restored. It's not yet known what caused the crash.
