ARCHIVED - Truck driver intercepted in Alcoy was five times over the limit
The man was driving a 40 ton truck loaded with vegetables from Murcia to Sweden at the time
The traffic division of the Guardia Civil of Alcoy (Alicante) intercepted the driver of a 40-ton truck, which was transporting vegetables from Murcia to Sweden and found that the driver was five times over the legal alcohol limit for professional drivers.
The 41-year-old man faces losing his driver's license for between one and four years and a possible prison term of three to six months.
The Guardia were on a routine traffic patrol on the A-7 when they observed the vehicle being driven “erratically”, so the lorry was stopped and checks carried out, including an alcohol test.
The driver gave a first test showing an alcohol level of 0.83 mg / l and a second yielding 0.86 mg / l.
This is well above the permitted level for a commercial driver which is 0.15 mg / l.
The vehicle was immobilized and the driver will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
