ARCHIVED - Two arrested in Málaga as hidden cameras found recording in ladies’ loos
The Spanish National Police, who seized more than 71,000 recordings as well as pornographic images of children among other things, believe the pair intended to upload the material on the internet for financial gains
Two people, a 44-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, have been arrested in Málaga (Andalusia) for installing hidden cameras in women’s toilets in different public places in the province. The recording devices were concealed within metallic objects that looked like air fresheners and consisted of movement-activated cameras and memory cards to store the videos.
The National Police were first alerted to the activities on 17 January when the manager of a shopping centre found the strange objects inside the women’s toilets and called the police as she had no idea what they were or where they had come from. Following a month of intense investigations, during which officers found more of the devices in public bathrooms in various areas of the province and analysed the images they contained, they managed to track down the woman who allegedly installed the cameras and a man who always accompanied her.
Upon searching the suspects’ homes, 71,080 recordings of women in the bathrooms were found, divided up into categories depending on specific physical traits which led investigators to suspect they were to be uploaded to websites in exchange for money. Officers also found another 84 recording devices, 120 videos containing child pornography, 2,300 photos of minors and 1,187 videos of the man arrested having sex with various women.
Investigations remain open and specialised police officers are currently trying to ascertain whether the women had given their consent for the sexual recordings and to identify and track down the victims of the bathroom recordings.
