ARCHIVED - Under 1,000 new positive cases of Covid-19 in Andalusia for fifth day in a row; Covid update March 4
Despite the downward trend in incidence rates, the Andalusian regional government has decided to maintain most of the current restrictions as the situation is still similar to that of the early days of the pandemic almost a year ago.
The regional Covid-19 situation update published by the Andalusian Statistics and Cartography Institute (IECA) on Thursday 4 March has reported 985 new positive coronavirus cases and 41 deaths over the previous 24 hours.
The 14-day accumulated incidence rate has dropped to 134.8 cases per 100,000 residents, down 8.2 from Wednesday (3 March) and down 80.4 from Thursday of last week. The rate is the lowest the region has reported since 30 December 2020, when it was at 134 cases per 100,000 residents.
The number of new cases was below the 1,000 mark for the fifth day in a row, but still the highest so far this week. It was still, however, considerably lower than the 1,256 reported last Thursday, the 1,803 on 18 February and the 3,506 on 11 February and a far cry from the 6,733 on 4 February.
Seville was the Andalusian province with the most new positive cases, 204, followed by Málaga with 193, Granada with 146, Cádiz with 133, Almería with 126, Córdoba with 76, Jaen with 72 and Huelva with 35.
The 41 deaths reported over the 24 hours were considerably fewer than the 69 on Wednesday (3 March) and the 58 on Thursday of last week.
Almería was the province to report the most deaths from coronavirus, eight, followed by Granada and Seville which reported seven each, Málaga six, Huelva five, Jaen four, Cádiz three and Córdoba one.
The region has also seen the number of people in hospitals with Covid-19 drop to 1,625, down 92 from Wednesday and down 462 from a week ago. 391 of them are in ICUs, down 19 from Wednesday and down 112 from Thursday 25 February.
Health Ministry data shows that Andalusia has registered 477,906 confirmed positive cases of coronavirus and 8,580 deaths since the pandemic began. Altogether 38,309 people have been admitted to hospital with the virus and 3,798 required intensive care. Meanwhile, 332,177 people who had been given a positive diagnosis have now fully recovered.
