The exhibition of steel and copper sculptures continues its 11-year tour of Spain
The wide avenue of the Alameda de San Antón in Cartagena is hosting an open-air display of monumental sculptures by Juan Méjica, a native of the northern Spanish region of Asturias, with the pieces having been installed until 5th July as the exhibition continues a long-lasting tour of the country.
It is 11 years since “Esculturas Monumentales” was first displayed in Oviedo, consisting of 7 large pieces fashioned from steel and copper, and Cartagena is its 48th venue. Its location in Cartagena between the central Plaza de España and the El Corte Inglés department store will guarantee that it is seen by a large number of people, and concerns over the pandemic are minimized due to this being an outdoor exhibition.
Each of the scultures, named Gran Toro de España, Árbol Tótem, Cabeza de Acero, Caballo Ibérico, Caballo Asturcón, Mujer Solar and Barco, measures between 2 and 4 metres in height and some weigh up to 5 tons.
