Stars of Spanish and world sport as portrayed by Antonio Menchón on display in the city of Murcia
The Sala Columnas exhibition hall in the Palacio Almudí in the centre of the city of Murcia is hosting an exhibition of “Hyperemphatic Art” by the painter Antonio Menchón until the end of October, containing a series of 14 images, most of them portraits of well-known Spanish sports stars.
The artist was born just outside Murcia in Alcantarilla in 1973 and is perhaps best known for creating the first official portrait of King Rey Felipe VI (as well as the last while he was still a prince). This is the first painting shown in the exhibition, the others being of Rafa Nadal, cyclist Alejandro Valverde, footballer Andrés Iniesta, motorcyclist Marc Márquez, tennis player Garbine Muguruza, David Casinos, Natalia Povoroznyuk, Irina Borisova, Maria Abashova, Anna Gerus, two geishas and the new world tennis number 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who hails from El Palmar.
Hyperemphatic Art can be visited at the Palacio Almudí from Monday to Saturday between 12.00 and 14.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00, and on Sundays and public holidays from 11.00 to 14.00.
