ARCHIVED - US paedophile teacher arrested in Barcelona
The fugitive, convicted of possessing child pornography, was teaching English while hiding out in Spain
The Guardia Civil has arrested a 64-year-old American citizen in Barcelona who fled the country after being placed under house arrest for possessing a large amount of child pornography. The fugitive has evaded capture for more than a decade after he was originally detained when a huge search of P2P files revealed paedophile material on several devices at his New York City home in 2010.
The suspect obtained Spanish nationality in 2018 by modifying his surnames, slipped his security bracelet and fled house arrest, beginning a marathon escape journey through several countries which brought him first to Ovido in Spain, then onto to London and Germany, before he returned to Barcelona.
Most shocking of all is the fact that the man was employed as an English teacher everywhere he went; no background check ever turned up the fact that he had been convicted of child pornography charges due to his name change.
Through the coordinated efforts of the UCO’s Escape from Justice Team and the Catalan Civil Guard, the paedophile was tracked down to his home in Barcelona where he was teaching online, and he was eventually arrested on September 22.
