ARCHIVED - Vaccination of police, firemen, marine rescue services and Civil Protection begins in Murcia region
The first vaccinations took place on Tuesday in the Cartagena Cabezo Beaza pavilion
In line with the strategy of the Spanish Government to vaccinate under 55s with the AstraZeneca vaccines currently being supplied to Spain, mass vacciations for personnel under the age of 55 using the AstraZeneca vaccine began in the Murcia region on Tuesday, with around 850 of the key workers who are most in contact with members of the public and therefore most at risk from contagion given their first vaccine.
Firemen, police, marine rescue and volunteers of Protección Civíl were amongst the first batch on Tuesday and the campaign will continue as the availabaility of vaccines permits.
Currently the lack of vaccines available is slowing down the vaccination programme amongst older and at risk groups, Spain having vaccinated only 3 million people since the campaign began on December 26th.
As of Tuesday evening, the Murcia Region has administered 108,290 doses of vaccine, with 46,777 people having received two doses.
In total, 61,513 people have received a first vaccine in the region.
