ARCHIVED - Valencia region on verge of medium risk amid Covid rebound
The region, including Alicante province, is less than a point off the 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants threshold
The Valencia region is close to being 'at medium risk' of Covid transmission after the 14-day cumulative incidence rate rose by 5.5 points over the weekend to 49.14 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Monday October 25, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health.
This places the three provinces, including Alicante, less than one point away from leaving the low transmission zone of less than 50 cases, and above the national average of 46.38.
The incidence has risen in all age groups and in children under 12 years of age. And worryingly, in the age groups of aged 30, 40, 50 and 80, the rate has already surpassed 50 cases.
A breakdown shows that incidences in under 11-year-olds currently stands at 55.72 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; between 12 and 19 years of age the rate slides to 27.80, but rises to 41.08 amongst those in their 20s.
It shoots up to 55.18 cases for the 30s age group: 50.73 amongst those in aged 40-49; 51.84 for those aged 50-59 ; 49.08 in the 60-69 years age group; 47.50 in those aged 70-79; and 59.31 amongst those aged over 80.
However, whilst daily cases continue to climb, with 562 reported on Monday, hospital pressure has dropped slightly, with 186 people currently being treated in wards across the region – five less than on Friday October 22 – and three less critically ill patients in ICUs.
But, despite the upward trend over the last week, with active cases reaching 2,492, the regional president, Ximo Puig, has confirmed that, in the short term at least, the government "is not considering" introducing new anti-Covid measures to tackle the rebound.
