ARCHIVED - Valencia region will administer more than 360,000 vaccines this week
The majority will go to the 40 to 59 age group in the provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon for first and second jabs.
The Communidad Valenciana is intent on remaining the region with the lowest incidence of Covid in Spain and plans to administer more than 360,000 vaccines this week.
A total of 360,883 doses of the four authorised vaccines will be given, with the vast majority earmarked for the 40 to 59 age group across the three provinces that make up the region, for first and second jabs.
Specifically, 281,255 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, 29,857 of Moderna, 25,806 of AstraZeneca and 23,965 single-dose Janssen vaccines have been distributed to the region's health departments.
This is almost 55,000 more doses than were injected last week, when a total of 306,092 people received a jab.
According to the Ministry of Health, 264,000 Pfizer doses will go to residents born between 1962 and 1981 to begin or complete their immunisation process, along with all the Janssen alternative.
Regarding the Moderna's vaccine, most of them (29,366) will also be administered to this age group, while the AstraZeneca vaccine will be used to complete the full inoculation of people under 60.
According to the Regional Minister for Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló, the roll-out of the vaccine campaign across the three provinces is having the desired effect, bringing new cases over the last two months to between 190 and 260 daily, "a good sign, because we have been relaxing restrictions," she says.
"Between vaccines and our moderate social policy, progress is being made against the pandemic," added the health minister.
